Stadslab: Make it!

Rotterdam – On the 12th of June the Rotterdam University of applied science celebrated her 25th anniversary. In addition to the retirement of Jasper Tuytel were several excursions organized in the city. Creating 010 (Formerly: Human Centered ICT) organized two excursions including: Make it! ‘Our’ Stadslab received this day about 75 people who all wanted to experience these new technologies.

The program consisted of five activities:

1. SensorLab
In an exhibition, various parts of the lab is shown and explained, including 3D printers, sensors, robots and technical information.

2. Fablab
Participants got to work with the laser cutters. By engraving itself a plate or a cup and got to work with designing programs ans machines.

3. Open Data Lab
By a route in a wheelchair and with the app ‘Barrier Free’ participants got insights into the possibilities of open data combined with sensor data. The background of this case, Open Data ‘Rotterdam Unlimited’, was explained in detail in a presentation of Rotterdam Open Data.

4. Games
Besides the three labs, visitors played games created by students of Media Technology and developed with the Wii as well as the Kinect.

5. GPS Game
When the GPS game participants were divided into two teams against each other in a struggle in the park, directed by teammates at the Stadslab. A game developed by students of Media Technology, using GPS and sensors in the phones.

The Stadslab-experience was in full regalia with the printed 3D whistles closed.
