Jeff Simons - Initiator Testdorp
Testdorp is an initiative of five students from the study Communication and Multimedia Design. This started as a school project and has grown to a serious Start-up. Testdorp is a platform where students and participants come together to test innovations and develop them. Essentially, Testdorp delivers tools to perform good research for their project and studies. In these tools, the role of the respondent is centralized.
Dave Brown – CIO Poken SA – Opening up the Poken Platform
Poken is ‘your social business card’ of which the offline world connects with your online identity. Poken is a promising start-up which is nominated for a Techcrunch Award. Nowadays, Poken works on a 3rd version of her website, while the company is commercially launched six months ago. The platform is getting more and more open, thanks to the insights and feedback of users that give Poken a better insight of the needs of the user.

Human Centered ICT: The user centered
The research group Human Centered ICT (HC ICT) is a knowledge centre within the Institute of Communication, Media and Information technology. At Human Centered ICT, we work on social cases like the development of a creative economy, realizing inexpensive, high quality healthcare, ‘independent living’, realizing durable solutions, safety and the improvement of participation in the society.
In other words, HC ICT works for humanity and society. ICT and new media make a lot of things easier, more enjoyable, more efficient and effective. They both improve the quality of living at work as well as in the personal environment. Placing the human-being in the centre of the development and designing of ICT and new media seems obvious, but real life experiences proof that this is not as obvious as it seems. Often, ICT-programs or devices don’t match our needs and wants; because they are too unpractical or just not functioning correctly.
