Domains

ICT can only be meaningful if during the development developers will pay attention to the context of the product or service. The Human Centered ICT research group always strives for collaborations with other research groups within the Rotterdam University of Applied science. There are intesive contacts with other research in the field of health, innovation, product realization and the learning city. Advantage of this approach is that the research group get in touch with various corporations and organizations in the region such as the City of Rotterdam, the Port Authority and various institutions.

Many benefits of human-centered approach are picked: the added value of the human centered context and were reflected in different application domains. For this approach the research group collaborates with other research groups, with specific domain knowledge. The researchgroup participates in a number of research proposals (for the grant of subsidy) drawn by the domain experts on care and welfare (IVG) and sustainability (Smart Energy, EAS) and area (IBB)) for her knowledge and skills human-centered design to apply. In addition, there are also projects related to the CMI field (ie the media and IT professionals) designed to a human-centered approach to refine and embed in professional practice.

The research group has linked different domains to programma’s. Within these programs there are different projects.

Technology designers can contribute to (urban) society when they are able to design pervasive infrastructures, services en displays in a meaningful way. In meaningful design, it is not about seducing people to buy products and services but about how people can derive meaning from them, through emotional engagement. The research program aims for design guidelines for ubiquitous technology in the living environment that leads to meaningful experiences of inhabitants; experiences as in feeling happy, be proud of your self and the
neighbourhood you’re living in.
